Association of Turks "Chelebia"

Bitola, babam Bitola

Within the project Bitola, babam, Bitola, implemented by the Turks association "Chelebija" from Bitola, on 24 January this year a tribune called "Bitola Cultural Values" took place. Facilitators at the tribune were Mr. Gjuner Ismail and Mr. Ivan Dodovski. The tribune was organized in cooperation with the Youth Cultural Center from Bitola and it provoked a great interest. The focus of the discussion was placed upon the different cultural values of this town, especially the various ethnic cultures that its tissue consists of.

This tribune is part of the project Bitola, babam, Bitola, which includes other two interesting events - one of them was an exhibition of books published in Turkish in the Republic of Macedonia, which was organized together with the University Library from"St. Clement Ohridski" from Bitola; the other event consisted of a recital by the actress Mrs. Sabina Ajrula and the monodrama Bitola, babam, Bitola starring Mr. Salaetin Bilal and organized by "Chelebija" in partnership with the Cultural Center from Bitola.

The goal of the Bitola, babam, Bitola project is to remind the citizens of the cultural bonds that have been built for centuries between the Macedonians, Turks, Albanians, Vlachs, Jews and other citizens that inhabited and still inhabit this town, especially after events that disturbed the interethnic relations in Bitola in 2001.

The project is part of the Programme for improving the interethnic relations that has been implemented in Macedonia by the Open Society Institute Macedonia Foundation, Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and the Belgian Foundation King Boduen. This project is technically supported by the European Center for Minority Rights and the International Organization for Migrations.
