Partnership is built when two or more organizations or individuals find a mutual interest to work together towards achieving a mutual objective. Partnership can be formed by individuals and/or organizations, for example, there can be partnership between two or more organizations, an organization and an individual, a group of several organizations and some individuals etc. Partnerships can be either very structural or less formal. Regardless of the fact whether the structure is tight and formal or freer, it is essential for the partners to know what to expect one from another and to know what they want to achieve together.

One of the definitions for partnership is the following: partnership is the highest level of relations among various people, united by their dedication to mutual objectives, linked by a long experience of mutual work and remaining further dedicated to the mutual vision (Mohaddin 1998). Typically, the biggest part of definitions link partnership to the following characteristics: long-term, sharing responsibilities, reciprocity, equality, mutuality and power balance. Others put the trust and respect in the first place.

Leading partner – an implementing organization that initiates or runs the partnership, develops a strategy, starts a program, manages the implementation, provides the biggest part of resources.

Coordination – attempts of groups of organizations, donors, governments, to exchange information and to integrate better their efforts.
