A memorandum for cooperation signed

On 9 March this year in Gostivar, a memorandum for cooperation was signed by HDZR “Mesecina” and the municipality of Gostivar, the Centre for Social Work, the Health Care Fund from Gostivar and the Employment Bureau Gostivar for opening the Roma Info Centre, which is financially supported by the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy.

The Humanitarian Voluntary Roma Association “Mesecina” from Gostivar has built its credibility both in the country and abroad. “Mesecina” has its branches in Kicevo, Tetovo and Debar. “Mesecina”, in cooperation with six civil society associations has opened sic centers in six towns in the country as part of the programme called “Civil-Counseling Centers”, financed by the Macedonian Center for International Cooperation and the Foundation Open Society Institute – Macedonia. This programme will continue until March 2008 with financial assets from the Institute for Sustainable Communities - ISC. The Roma Info Center is part of the mosaic “Civil-Counseling Centers” whose goal is to provide functional exchange of information via civil society organizations, the local institutions and the citizens who belong to the Roma community”, said in his greeting the president of HDZR “Mesecina”, Mr. Ramadan Pini.

“Gostivar, as opposed to many other towns, is heterogeneous when it comes to the nationalities. Today, I feel great pleasure having spent most of my youth with Roma people. The opening of the Roma Info Center is an excellent thing. Part of the municipality of Gostivar is the Center for informing the citizens, so I believe that The Roma Info Center, too, will also serve the other communities who live the town”, said the mayor of Gostivar, Mr. Nevzat Bejta.

Mabera Kamberi from the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy said that in the future, eight other info centers will be opened in the towns where there is higher percentage of Roma population.
