Ban for phosphate detergents
The campaign for banning the use of phosphate detergents carried out by the environmental organizations has finally brought results - the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning of the Republic of Macedonia has announced the adoption of a ban for phosphate detergents by the end of this year. The ban will refer to both the use and the production of phosphate detergents in Macedonia. Any violations will be sanctioned.
The phosphates are one of the main reasons for pollution of the lakes, rivers and other surface waters and the initiation of the eutrofication process, that is the process of turning the lakes into ponds. For years, the associations from the regions of Ohrid and Prespa, supported by international organizations, have been pointing to the phosphate detergents for years as one of the major sources of this kind of pollution and they have been asking that they are replaced with ecological detergents.
