The World Rural Women’s Day marked
The condition of women from the rural areas in the country is on unenviable level
The condition of women from the rural areas in Macedonia is on unenviable level. Most often they do not have any property or land and they do not have their own business, it was said at the manifestation on the occasion of the World Rural Women’s Day – 15 October, organized by the Union of Women’s Organizations of the Republic of Macedonia, under the motto “Right to food: Rural women produce and supply”.
UWOM considers that the state should, by taking overall measures, initiate changes that would improve women’s condition in the rural areas and the world statistics say that one quarter of the total population is rural women. “The condition of women in the rural areas in our country is unfortunately not on the level it deserves to be, in spite of the fact that with the global social progress gender equality is much bigger. However, women from the rural environment are more involved in decision making for agricultural production and planning the family budget”, stated the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Supply, Aco Spasenoski, who said that the number of women from rural areas who apply for grants is getting bigger. According to the latest statistical data, over 40% of Macedonian families live in rural areas, their incomes decrease, as well as their employment.
