The gender concept in the rural areas of RM

The Union of Macedonian Women Organizations (UMWO) has promoted the publication called "The gender concept in the rural areas of the Republic of Macedonia", which sums up the results from the research carried out on the gender concept in the rural areas. "We are aware of the women condition in the rural areas in the country. However, it is positive that now we have a publication to prove that. The researches in it show that the rural areas are still dominated by the patriarchal habits. In these areas, the politics is a man's job, and women role is reduced to being reproductive.", points out the promoter, Biljana Bejkaova, coordinator of the NGO Infocentre.

The research was carried out the rural areas around Skopje, Tetovo, Kumanovo, Probistip and Struga. Two hundred people of different gender, nationality, age and religion were interviewed in each region.

"10 activists in 50 rural areas were engaged to carry out the survey, and then the results were analysed by experts. The goal was to realize the actual condition with the gender development, to recognize the gender identity and offer a statistical review that will point the directions for the following initiatives and activities", said Savka Todorovska, UMWO President.

The publishing of the book was supported by the MCIC, and its authors are PhD Vesna Dimitrievska and Junior Ass. Tatjana Stojanovska. For more detailed information call 02/3134-390 and 02/3220-570.
