Public Health Programme

Five years promotion of the public health

This year, the public health programme, implemented by the Foundation Open Society Institute - Macedonia is completing its five-year work in the Republic of Macedonia. It is a network programme of the Open Society Institute from New York. The main goal of this programme is to promote and support the concept of the public health, which understands inclusion of the public, equal treatment and access of the public health institutions to everyone. The public health is trying to point out to the fact that both society and the individual have right and obligations in the promotion and maintaining of the health care either through direct activities and services or through promoting the healthy environment and the health in the community. For the realization of that goal, it is necessary to define measurable goals for the improved health of both the individual and the community.

This year, too, the Public Health Programme will cooperate with institutions in that field (the Ministry and the health institutions) and the civil society organizations working in this field.

In 2005, the Programme will focus on the standards in the quality of the health, through postgraduate studies in the field of public health protection, as well as through creating conditions and a policy for equal approach to the health protection, especially for the vulnerable groups of citizens (Romas, drug abusers, people with intellectual and physical disabilities, people infected with HIV/AIS).
