People: Dusica Perisikj
Mind your own business
Professional experience: 13-year experience as a mechanical engineer at “Metalski Zavod Skopje”, and 6 year-experience as ZELS executive director.
Engagement in the civil sector: I work for the civil society organization ZELS. I am a member of CIRa and MESA management boards and a member of MCIC council.
Hobbies and interests: My greatest interests are the public finances, their allocation and the way of collecting them. Special place among them have the municipality finances. Another hobby of mine and a passion as well, is reading.
Toughest decision: Changing my job, when I decided to replace the factory with ZELS.
Ambitions: My ambitions concern ZELS and the local government. I expect and I hope the decentralization process to be one of the most successful stories in the Republic of Macedonia, and our experiences and knowledge gained in the process to be something we will be recognized for in the region.
In her free tie she reads: My favorite writers are Dostoevsky and Solohov and I have read their works several times. I also like Chekhov, as well as the popular writers of fiction, which is great for relaxation.
Where does she go in her free time? So far I do not have any free time during the week.
At weekends: On Saturdays I enjoy going shopping in Skopje and on Sundays I like walking along the river bank.
Which national/local problem does she find especially important and why? Macedonia’s problem is complex, no matter if we talk about the corruption, the excessive involvement of the politics in all segments of living, the untrained administration at all levels, the lack of will or anything. Nevertheless, I believe we have everything we need to lead the country towards a real progress, development and growth.
Which global problem does she find especially important and why? The poverty is one of the biggest problems in the world. It is unimaginable that in the world and time of great progress in all aspects of living, there is still a huge number of poor people in the world who hardly manage to get by.
What would she change in Macedonia / the world? People’s awareness and the way they work is something I would like to change in our country.
Advice / message: Mind your own business and finish the job doing your best.
I could never: Build my personal happiness on the basis of other people’s misery. What I particularly hate is courtship and sneaking.
