8 April marked at ARM Skopje
Solemn academy and promotion of the “Short history of Romas”
The Roma Cultural and Educational Centre DARHIJA from Skopje, The Network of Roma Civil Society Organizations “RNGO ROMA 2002”, The Macedonian Centre for International Cooperation – Skopje and FIOOM held a solemn academy on 6 April at ARM in Skopje to mark the World Roma Day – 8 April. The presence of domestic and foreign organizations and institutions could be noted at the academy, as well as the presence of Dr. Rojko Gjurik, author of several collections, prose books and researches in the field of Roma culture and language, who spoke on “Romas and history and the new tendencies for Romas in Europe. The bilingual book (in Roma and Macedonian) called “Short history of Romas by Dr. Gjurik and Ljatif Mefaileskoro Demir was also promoted at the academy. It is one of the rare books in the world on the Roma history, and it is the first one on that subject written in Roma language. In this occasion, several individuals, organizations and institutions were presented the award “8 April” as an acknowledgement for their contribution for greater Roma integration in the Macedonian society. In front of the guests, “DARHIJA orkestro” performed several pieces from the classical, Roma and Macedonian music.
