World environmental day marked
The Earth is running out of time
The world environmental day, 5 June, was marked this year under the motto “we are changing our behaviour” and “don’t desolate the deserts”. On the same day a stamp with the motto “deserts and desolation” was promoted. The art design was created by Ana Stojkovikj and a motif on the stamp is symbolic hour glass which measures the time of the Earth’s desolation. The stamp costs 12 denars, it has standard dimensions and will be a permanent edition of “Makedonski poshti”.
June 5 was marked in Ohrid with the international film festival and the subject of “environment and culture”. The EU ambassador in Macedonia, Erwan Fuere, says that this day was an opportunity for everyone to try and become more active in the process of creating the sustainable and equal development. “since 2002 the European union has been helping Macedonia to improve its standards in the field of environment. The financial assistance of 14.5 million euros is aimed for increasing the Government’s capacity to monitor and implement the regulations concerning the environment”. However, the laws and regulations alone are not enough. What needs to be changed is the awareness and the old habits, and the best place tom start those changes is the home, the family and the school. I would like to encourage you to pay more attention to the environmental education and the public awareness as part of the regular curriculum” – was Fuere’s appeal on the World Environmental Day.
