BENA

Balkan Scientific Cooperation

The Balkan Environmental Association that incorporates scientists and experts for environmental protection and promotion from many South-Eastern European countries, is active in the field of strengthening the cooperation for over-boarder pollution reduction.

As the BENA president, Prof. Dr. Fokion Vosniakos, said at the press conference, BENA operates on a project for monitoring the air-pollution in the REK Bitola surrounding. This project has been going on for a year now in cooperation with the Greek electro-economy, with the aim of establishing better power-engineering management in REK Bitola.

- We are also operating on an international project called PROBLEMA, the aim of which is to assess the Danube pollution level and its influence on the Black Sea, and also the indirect influence on the Aegean Sea and its basin, said Prof. Dr. Vosniakos.

Dr. Josif Tanevski, the Macedonian coordinator for BENA, informed us about the future BENA activities, including the Conference on “Managing the mountain systems” with accent on tourism, agriculture and pollution, as well as the conferences on managing the coasts and the agricultural pollution; a workshop on ecological education, the conference on fishing and its influence on the water eco-systems and other BENA activities.
