The first results of the project “My MP” have been issued
80.7% of the respondents have not contacted an MP from their election unit
Citizens’ Association MOST has published and presented the edition “My MP”, which covers the results of the first phase within the project MP’s Performance. It contains data on the work of the representatives in the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia within the period February - August 2007 and the same have officially been received by the Parliament.
There are data about the work of each MP, his/her name and surname, the election unit he/she comes from, the number of attendances, number of absences and discussions at parliamentarian sessions, number of submitted law proposals or amendments, number of Representative’s questions, membership and work in the parliamentary commissions and working bodies, number of meetings in the mobile parliament and used services from the Office for contact between the NGOs and Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia. The report on MPs’ performance is planned to be published twice a year. The basic goal of the project “My MP” is to increase cooperation and openness of MPs towards citizens’ needs and to improve the quality of their work by informing the public about the effects from it. For the benefit of the project in the period 19-21 September 2007 on the representative sample of 1.118 respondents a public opinion poll was conducted in which a question was addressed for watching the Parliamentary channel, to which 18% of the respondents gave a positive answer. The average citizens’ grade of the Parliament is 2.3 regarding the question to rate the work of the Parliament, whereas 38.5% of the respondents reckon that the Parliament is dependent on the Government in the process of enacting laws. To the question whether they had a meeting with the representative from their Election Unit after the elections, 80% of the respondents gave a negative answer, whereas 39.7% of the respondents know that there are offices for contact between the NGOs and the Parliament. The research was conducted by the Institute for Democracy “Sosietas Civilis” and the citizens’ association MOST. The project “My MP” is supported by the Embassy of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, BTD (Balkan Trust for Democracy) and the Royal Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
