“Front 21/42”
Climate changes and recycling among pupils
The civil society organization “Front 21/42”, supported by the British Embassy, under the motto “Our climate is changing – we have to change, too”, has started the national campaign for raising public awareness of climate changes. The campaign is implemented in high schools throughout the country, where a team of fighters against climatic changes, mostly high school students, educate their peers.
In the poll carried out by “Front 21/42” the high school students showed big ignorance about the reasons for climate changes, saying they were God’s will or resulted from changes in the nature. The goal of the campaign is the young people to get familiar with their actions that contribute to climate changes and how to direct their behavior to make a difference. For that purpose a TV video has also been made and in cooperation with “Makedonski sumi” an action will be carried out for planting 28.000 saplings on different locations. During the campaign experiences are used from Great Britain, which is the only country in the world with a law on this issue.
The British Embassy in Macedonia, together with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) will finance the project “We are all together in the circle” by “Front 21/42”. The high school students from Gostivar, within the project, started a program on selection and purchase of plastic PET-packing in their schools.
This is the first organized and continuous recycling program in our country which involves all elements for “closing the circle” – consumers, special places for collecting the packing, as containers for PET-plastic, defined terms for leaving plastic waste and organized purchase by a private company. “Front 21/42” has signed a contract for purchase of collected packing with the private company “EkoPet”. The company will transfer all funds from the purchase to the schools.
