Fur hundred million dollars in Macedonia

In the last four years, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has invested four hundred million dollars in Macedonia. Only in the five years, the projects supported by USAID include more than 150 renovated schools, 77 improved water-supply systems, as well as over one hundred playgrounds. With this initiative, over 25 million dollars have been invested into Macedonian local organizations.

The book called “Self-assistance for the communities” has been recently promoted in Skopje. It presents the records for a number of projects for development of the local communities in Macedonia, supported by the USAID.

“Our primary goal was to build a mechanism for encouraging the citizens to be active in their municipalities. More than 1.5 million Macedonian citizens benefit from our projects”, said Dick Goldman, USAID director in Macedonia.

USAID has invested a lot in the Macedonian education. The educational programme “Together we invest into the Macedonian future”, supported by the US Agency is part of the education reforms in our country, a project consisting of four units: creative teaching and learning, Roma children education project (in cooperation with the “Soros” Foundation and the CSO “Soncogledi”; the third projects called “E-School” – a project on information technology is realized in cooperation with the National Republic of China which sent 2 000 computers for the Macedonian schools, and, which, USAID will install in the computer laboratories in all high schools.

The fourth one is the project for the high schools which foresees virtual companies in the schools that will help the students find the way in their future career.
