The International Day against the Children Labor Abuse marked

There are children of all nationalities on the streets of Macedonia

On the occasion of 12 June, the International Day against Children Labor Abuse, The First Children Embassy in the World, Medjashi, reminded that despite the fact that Macedonia ratified the Convention against Children Labor Abuse six years ago, the condition remains highly critical.

“Over 18 000 children are not involved in the system of education and at least 1000 children spend their childhood on the street. According to the Social Affairs Office in Skopje, the children who are on the streets are divided in several groups: children without parents, children with one parent, children of divorced parents, children living in disturbed family relations. About 30% of children on the streets are children without parents. They are of all nationalities and ages. 58% of them are Romas, says the announcement by Medjashi. 15.5% of them are pre-school children, 64% of them are aged 7-14, 88.5% show socially unacceptable behavior and 11.5% show tolerant social behavior.

The abuse of children labor does not necessarily mean children’s engagement in physical work, but also commercial sexual abuse, prostitution and pornography, children trafficking, children-soldiers, etc., they remind at Medjashi. There are about 246 million children in the world, aged 5-17 whose labor is being abused. Of them, 186 million are children under 15. The members of the Children Embassy consider the fact that the majority of them, that is, 110 million children are under 12 years old to be devastating.
