Global week for action against the small and light weapons
The civil society organization Journalists for the rights of women and children and environmental protection has been actively involved in the Global Week for Action against Small and Light Weapons for five year in arrow now. This year, the week took place between 11 and 17 June in several locations.
There are over 640 million pieces of small weapons n the world. 59% of the weapons belong to civilians, 38% possess the governments and the armies, 2.8% are in the hands of the police and 0.2% is possessed by the military groups. According to the estimations of the International community, about one thousand people die every day as a result of the use of fire weapons. It kills more men than women, but women suffer from the excessive use of weapons, too. Women do not buy weapons, do not own or use it. They are mostly its victims.
The organizations that participate in the Global Week for Action are: NGO Civil, UNDP, Caritas France and OSCE. The action was supported by the National Art Gallery of the Republic of Macedonia, the Radio Broadcasting Service and the Art Cafe “Mala Stanica”. The TV show “Say “yes” to life” was being filmed during the Global Week for Action. The show is dedicated to the risks and the consequences of possessing and using weapons in our society. The show was financed by the Radio Broadcasting Service and is part of the Shortcut Production.
