Due to financial problems in Kicevo
Marking of the World Day of Blind People canceled
This year the Kicevo Association of Blind People did not mark the World Day of White Cane, celebrated as day of people with such handicap. According to the words of the president Zendel Zulbeari, the reason for not marking the event is the finances. “Every year it is more difficult for us to find a way to provide finances for functioning of our association. This year we do not have any possibility to collect our members and to celebrate the day modestly”, says Zulbeari.
In the past, when this association had bigger support from the community, the members organized chess competitions and other events to show that in spite of their handicap, they were able to and wanted to socialize. The association, which has about one hundred members, has a prefab where they share premises with the Association of Deaf and Hard of Hearing from Kicevo, but it is hard to provide finances for heating the premises, which are above all aimed at their members to be together for a longer period of time, to share their problems and find solutions for them.
