Second “Living Heritage” Fair
The Creative Ones Presented Themselves on Macedonia Street
The second, but this year one-day, Living Heritage Fair took place on 10th June in Skopje, organized by the Centre for Contemporary Arts from Skopje, with financial support from the Foundation Open Society Institute – Macedonia. The cultural and artistic society “Drimkol” from Vevcani performed at the opening, and the 20 stalls on which the participants exhibited their handicrafts and printed informational materials were given for free by the municipality Centre. The participants from 10 local communities from the country who realize their projects within the Living Heritage Programme conducted by FOSIM, offered to sell authentic handicrafts made of forged iron, wood, textile, pottery, groceries to the interested citizens.
The Living Heritage Programme aims to support the local initiatives for using the natural and cultural heritage as a resource for local development. From its beginning in 2001 until now, with a total sum of 540 thousand dollars, 37 projects have been supported in as much number of municipalities in the country.
According to the organizers, the fairs contribute the citizens to become particularly interested in the artisans’ products, but also for visiting the tourist destinations which are affirmed through the accomplished projects. Such is the example with Mariovo, Smolare and Kolesino waterfalls, Mokrino springs etc.
