On the road to EU: Gender Equality Policies in the Republic of Macedonia
On the occasion of this year’s EU campaign, 2007 – A Year of Equal Opportunities for Everyone”, the civil society association “Akcija Zdruzenska”, organized a Forum on: “On the road to EU: Gender Equality Policies in the Republic of Macedonia”, which took place on 20 February 2007 in Skopje.
The goal of the forum was opening a debate between the government institutions representatives, civil society organizations, EU representatives in Macedonia and other relevant organizations to discuss the standards of the gender equality, which are part of the European judiciary and practices and the ways to incorporate them in the Macedonian society.
The discussion was based on the information, the findings and the recommendations of the monitoring that was carried out on this subject by the EU representatives and the civil society organizations.
After the introduction given by Marija Savovska, “Akcija Zdruzenska” president, speeches were delivered by Joanne Pierce, first consultant at the EU Mission in the Republic of Macedonia, who spoke on “Promoting the gender equality in the eve of the Eurountegrations” and Jank Sejfula, vice-manager of the Political Union Issues Sector at the European Issues Secretariat at the Macedonian Government, who spoke on “Gender Equality in the Republic of Macedonia – the progress made and the steps to follow”.
