"Women can do it - part II"

The Union of Macedonian Woman Organizations (UMWO) in cooperation with the Department for promotion of gender equality at the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy and financially supported by OSCE have started to implement the project "Women can do it - part II" - work with women from the political parties, local elections 2004. The project that will be implemented by November this year should encourage an increased participation of women at decision-making positions and incorporating the gender issue in the work of the political parties in the Republic of Macedonia on local level.

With that goal, on 17 March this year, a meeting took place with women representatives - leaders of political parties who expressed their interest and wish to become part of the project. A series of seminars on education of women from 10 political parties will be held, directed towards developing the organizational structure of women groups within the parties. The seminars will be held for each political party respectively. The project foresees political parties; programme analysis, from the aspect of the representation of women and gender issues, as well gender analysis of the candidate lists for the local elections 2004.
