There are no reprises, its worth making the best of it
Professional experience: I started as a reporter at the Albanian Programme in MTV. Those seven years remained as a great memory, because I tasted what it means to have a job that fulfills you no matter how tiring it was – it does not make you tired because, applying the standards learnt during the studies and creating a fluid with the audience, one works with great enthusiasm. Fortunately, I acquired the same, maybe even greater professional experience (regarding the better organized professional life) working at the University of Southeastern Europe in the department for communication. Here, it seems that the effect of the input is slower, limited to less audience. However, without doubt it lasts longer. I strongly believe that the best students will manage to impose originality in the values and the performance and deal successfully with the competition that can easily beat you provided you takes things easy for a bit. I am about to finish my post-graduate studies in communication at the Institute for Sociological and Political-Legal Researches, and in this occasion I will refrain myself from paying them compliments so as not to sound like courtship.
Engagements in the civil sector: With the initial motive - the gender issues, and in order to earn my pocket money, I joined the ESE at the very beginning of its existence and I got myself properly infected with the virus of gender equality. I worked with the ‘girls’ until I got married, which was my chance for practical verification of the theory. “At home”, in Tetovo, I joined some other women programmes the goal being the cultural animation and reviving the old crafts.
Ambitions: To finish my graduation thesis as soon as possible, to improve my English and to realize my doctor’s studies at some European university (I prefer that to be London or Amsterdam). Before that, I am planning to publish a book about what the media are doing to us. There are so many things left unsaid, or said only in front of students or in a newspaper, and that fades away somehow.
Hobbies and interests: Besides the colloquial: books, theater, film, exhibitions, etc., I grow flowers and cook every day, but somehow I cannot manage to see that as a hobby – besides the fact that I do not find it boring. The greatest compliment I have received on that matter is that I never cook the same thing twice (by my husband).
In her free time she reads: Apart from the obligatory communication theory (favourite authors: Robins, Morley, Fiske, Heartly, Lewis), I find it most pleasant to fall asleep with a book, which is part of my daily routine and I would not change it with anything. A few days ago I needed to return to the “modern-way” eastern philosophy’ through the young authors Joshimoto and Huy, and at the moment I am reading “Private Room” by Virginia Wolf: powerful and soft reading, it suits me perfectly since I really love women’s texts; one of the books that waited in line to be read for a long time.
At weekends: I do many things. If I have to – I finish what I have started and stopped doing due to the lack of time (the biggest excuse). What I do with joy is: mountaineering, visiting friends, relatives, tending, going out and spending hours with my husband and my son.
Toughest decision: So far, I have not had such.
Which national (local) problem does she find especially important and why: The defeatism: as soon as we manage to get rid of that cultural matrix, everything will work out right.
Which global problem does she find especially important and why: The violence of any kind. What is worst, we get used to it, so it’s no longer a problem for us to watch a torn body on TV and continue our meal. My son has an embargo for any violent content on TV: he even turns his head round by himself: some people tell me that’s extreme. However, I believe there are so many good ways to fulfill one’s time and less and less time So, it would be a pity not to.
What would she change in Macedonia and in the world: I would make it Finland, just a little bit lighter and I would add the Balkan socializing. We do not need anything else.
Advice (message): I suppose I should say something grand, so let me try to: we are living the premiere, there are no reprises, so its worth making the best of it.
