WB Report: Influence of Corruption on Business in Transition Countries on the Decrease

The latest World Bank report “Anticorruption in Transition 2: Corruption in Enterprise-State Interactions in Europe and Central Asia 1999 – 2002” found that spread and the negative impact of corruption on enterprises in the transition countries of Europe and Central Asia is on the decrease. The report analysed the corruption trends in the enterprise-government interactions in 26 transition countries of Europe and Central Asia, from 1999 to 2002. More than 6500 companies were involved in the survey.  Nevertheless, the report notes that the presence of corruption in SEE, including Albania, BiH, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia and Romania, remains a rather big problem, as opposed to the majority of transition countries in Central Europe and the Baltic region.
