Macedonian Human Rights Movement in Canada

Reactions to the US Report on Greece

The non-governmental organization Macedonian Human Rights Movement (MHRMC) has been active in Canada for some time. The organization has its web-site: www.mhrmc.ca. Recently, this organization reacted in relation to the US report on Greece called "Reports on countries' practices regarding the human rights - 2002: Greece".

In this report, states the MHRMC, the Macedonian minority in Greece is in quotation marks, and they call it "Slavo-Macedonian" and the language "Slav dialect"; or the mentioning of its name is avoided. This, considers the association, gives the impression that USA agrees with the official Greek position that the Macedonian minority in Greece does not exist, that is, it's illegitimate. The association quotes several parts of this report, which seem as if the USA are apologists of the Greek policy regarding the Macedonian minority. Therefore, the association appeals that such mistakes are corrected in the Report and that press-information on the Macedonian minority mistreatment in this report is published.
