At the Cifte Amam in Skopje
Holiday Craft Bazaar organized
The traditional “Holiday Craft Bazaar” was organized from 8 to 11 December 2005 at the Cifte Amam in the Old Skopje Bazaar. More than 80 Macedonian craftsmen were selling handmade presents and decorations for the New Year’s holidays. The organizer of this event, where 12 civil society organizations from Macedonia presented themselves with products made within different project activities, is the Coordination Unit of the project called “Development of the municipalities and the culture” at the Ministry of Culture and the project called “Aid to Artisans”, realized in our country through USAID, in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and the Macedonian Artisan Trade Association – MATA. This year, just as the previous years, the bazaar attracted the attention of the citizens who visited it in large numbers, buying some of the products which are part of the Macedonian artisan tradition, as well as new, handmade mosaics, jewellery, icons, handmade paper, carvings, table and bed sheets, items made of porcelain, …glass, then cards, etc.
The Coordination Unit of the project called “Development of the municipalities and the culture is a four-year project realized within the Ministry of Culture and financially supported by the Macedonian Government and the World Bank. The goal of its realization is improving the socio-economic development through reanimation of the cultural heritage, development of the traditional crafts and customs and development of the cultural tourism.
