At the overhead crossing Vlajko in Skopje
Artists and civil society organizations were given space
After the shops located in the overhead crossing “Vlajko” were given to the civil society organizations and the artists from the Municipality of Karpos to use them, the crossing was reanimated both from the outside and from the inside – it got a new soul. Walking along the inside stores inside, one can notice easels, paintings made in wood, various sitting sets, flowers and other objects. The designed interior shows all the creativity of the young artists.
Civil Society Organizations moved in four of the shops at Vlajko. They are the Cultural Information Center of the Serbs in Macedonia, whose representative is Milutin Stancikj. There is the Association for supporting people with special needs DIGNITAS, headed by Nenad Markovikj, then the Association of European Student Structures AEGEE with its representative Dragan Sekulovski and Handicap Integration.
The artists and the civil society organizations gave the deserted space a new spirit. Thirteen shops each one with the size of 8m2 had been unsuccessfully marketed for a long time before the municipality of Karpos via an open competition decided to give them to artists and NGOs registered in this municipality. Only they were eligible candidates to apply for, submitting their agenda for the following year and reporting on the work done. Those who were lucky to get their own space in “Vlajko” do not pay the rent. Their responsibility is to pay the municipal fees. They can use the place for a year and then renew the contract with the municipality.
