People: Azbija Memedova
We have been destroyed by the greed, selfishness and ignorance
Professional experience: As a sociologist, I have been working for seven years in the non-governmental sector. I work as a consultant for several international organizations, as well as a trainer and facilitator for the NGO in the country and abroad.
Engagement in the civic sector: President of the Roma Centre in Skopje whose mission is to accelerate the integration of Roma people in Macedonia, through strengthening the Roma individual and organizational capacities. The Centre pays much attention to strengthening the position of women on national and international level.
Hobbies and Interests: Life stories of the famous, especially famous women.
Toughest decision: "The day you are living is a result of the decisions made yesterday". As in every job, so in mine, I am faced with situations when you have to make decisions every day, decisions that affect my private and my professional life in many segments. There is no such thing as "toughest" decision. Every decision bears its own responsibility and consequences.
Ambitions: To try my skills in the profitable sector.
In her free time she reads: Books that treat the place of women in the societies, religions, especially in the Islam, the question of identity, but also books about Satya Sai Baba.
Where does she go in her free time: Where my two-and a half-year old sun, Isak would take me. Most often in the park or the Kale.
At weekends: I usually work.
Which national/local problem does she find especially important and why: The incapability of the political elite to provide a decent life of two million people. We have been destroyed by the greed, selfishness and ignorance.
Which global problem does she find especially important and why: The inequality among people, the racial and religious intolerance that results in deep poverty.
What would she change in Macedonia and the world: Primarily, we have to change our archaic attitudes and ourselves for all those who live near us and with us. We need a common vision we would all fight for. When that occurs, the world that knows very little about us now, will open its doors alone.
Advice/message: Be true believers: the values of all religions, even those of the atheists are always the same - respect them.
I could never: Close my eyes in front of the injustice.
