Macedonian Centre for International Cooperation
MCIC gain special advisory status in the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)
Starting for July 2006, the Macedonian Centre for International Cooperation became a “Civil Society Organization with a special advisory status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council”. The UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is the first step that enables the civil society organizations to become part of the UN formal counseling.
Apart from their advisory status at ECOSOC, the organizations work on problems relevant to some of the topics ECOSOC works on; they can attend the UN meetings and be invited at UN international conferences; they can propose the ECOSOC agenda issues, send circular reports on the ECOSOC and its associate bodies’ meetings; they can talk at those associate bodies’ meetings and they have to submit a for years’ report on its work. MCIC is the first organizations with the attribute “Macedonian” that has ever become a UN body, and the second one accepted in the council.
The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) was established with a UN Chapter a basic organ for coordinating economic and social issues and issues related to the work of 14 specialized UN agencies, 10 functional and 5 regional commissions. The Council gets reports from 11 UN funds and programs.
