Regional training in Bitola
The home for infants and small children got a solar system
From 9th to 14th November, the NGO Proaktiva members, together with thirty activists from ten Southeast European countries, held a training, part of which was to make and assemble a solar system with a 6-metre collector and a 200 litter water-heater (boiler).
The solar panels were placed on the roof of the home’s building in Biltola. This institution, which provides housing and care for more than 100 children, uses most of its assets for providing hot water for the everyday needs of the youngest.
By placing the solar system, the Home for infants and small children from Bitola will partly reduce the expenditures for electricity, thus being able to redirect its finances for other goals. The activity was implemented in cooperation with the NGO “Zelena Akcija” from Croatia, and with help from the Norwegian Government. Apart from the practical work, the activists had a chance to become familiar with the solar energy advantages in protecting the environment (the solar energy does not cause any pollution at all) and in saving money, since its use is for free.
The researches have shown that Macedonia is a favorable field for using the solar energy since there are about 260 sunny days, or 2,500 hours a year. From an energetic point of view, a square meter of panel provides 1,500 kWh a year.
The regional training is only one part of the many Proaktiva programme activities for promotion of the renewable sources of energy and energetic efficiency, the goal of which is to promote the energetic efficiency in various public and private facilities in the country in a practical manner.
