“Culture and local cultural policy decentralization”

From 12th to 14th of December in Ohrid, the Performing Arts Centre “Multimedia” from Skopje is organizing the first of the two workshops on: “Culture and cultural policy decentralization”, which are part of the project for strengthening the local cultural institutions in the Republic of Macedonia.

The project is, in fact, a carefully designed training-programme for the direct participants in the decentralization process of the cultural institutions in the Republic of Macedonia, and it is financially supported by the Ministry of Culture, The European Cultural Foundation and the United States Public Relations Office at their Embassy in Skopje. The programme’s target group are mayors, consultants at the local government, managers, the employees at the local cultural institutions and the local civil society organizations, who need to be offered information on the decentralization process, as well as new and more modern of decision-making, planning, organizing, managing, raising financial assets and work. The training course should contribute for bigger independence, sustainability, and most of all, successful transition from central to local level governance and creating and implementing cultural policy at the local communities in Macedonia. “One of the most important parts of the project for strengthening the local cultural institutions in the Republic of Macedonia, is the one that addresses the designing of the local cultural policies, which involves: the municipalities, the cultural institutions and the local civil society organizations. It is worth mentioning the creation of the cultural institutions’ network, which will enable the cultural institutions to share the knowledge and experiences through mutual support and cooperation. And finally, but as important as the previously mentioned, we must mention the creation of a favorable atmosphere where citizens can live much better” – emphasize the Multimedia members.
