17 May – International Day against the homophobia
Dragan Pavlovikj – Latas is the most homophobic public person
Under the motto “Homophobia is gay, the Macedonian Association for Free Sexual Orientation (MASSO) has marked the International Day against the homophobia – 17 May for the second time, at the same time promoting its new edition, the book “Review”.
The book contains a comparative analysis of the international law, analysis of the legal framework regarding the LGBT people, documented cases of discrimination and recommendations by MASSO on how to overcome them.
Dragan Pavlovikj - Latas, a journalist and editor of TV “Sitel” and the daily newspaper “Vecer” was declared the most homophobic public person by the gay-population. The media observation that MASSO has been doing in the last year, showed that this journalist has been constantly spreading homophobia by making inappropriate jokes on the account of the LGBT population.
MASSO emphasizes that no spread of homophobia or abuse of the LGBT community in Macedonia has been noted in the media, except for an article in the daily newspaper “Vest” which contains a certain degree of homophobia. The association has also made a complaint to the daily newspaper “Spic” for a homophobic construction, since its members were not allowed to reply to Professor Georgi Cadlovski in a polemic regarding part of his text book “Psychiatric” and “Medical psychology”, where he, they claim at MASSO, treats homosexuality as a mental disorder in the sphere of urges.
