“Ozi – Ozone” The picture book and the cartoon called “Ozi – Ozone – protector of our planet” were promoted on the occasion of 16 September, the International Day for Ozone Layer Protection. In this way, the civil society organization OHO continues the implementation of the environmental-educational programme “We do not have a spare planet”, designed mostly for the pre-school institutions and the primary schools in Macedonia. After the first picture book,“How to save a tree”, “Ozi – Ozone is the second one of the five picture books that are to be published. It will be distributed free of charge throughout the kindergartens and primary schools in the country. The cartoon lasts for 9 and a half minutes, it is adjusted to the age of children for whom it was intended and it will be distributed to the national and the local TV stations in order to make it available to the broader public. The goal of these products is to explain to the children what the ozone layer is, what its function is, where it is, what it consists of, what thing present danger to it,and eventually, what are the ways to protect it – all through the character of Ozi – Ozone.
During the nine-year continuous work on the programme called “We do not have a spare planet”, OHO have started eco-education of the youngest population, have made eco-game sets, have completed the preparation of the eco-clubs guidebook and created a network of 20 eco-schools in Macedonia. The next step, as Aleksandra Mladenovska, programme-director, explained, is spreading and implementing the programme in our neighbouring countries.
The promotion of the picture book and the cartoon was attended by Roman Darbeli, Head of the Swiss Office for Development and Cooperation, which has been continuously supporting the ecological education in Macedonia, and Marin Kocov, Head of the Ozone Layer Protection Department at the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning.
