The position of the employed women in Macedonia
Women aged 15-25 face more difficulties in finding employment
Women aged 15-25 are employed less and their working life stops earlier than men’s – after the age of 55. The young and educated women find it hard to get a job and after they have turned 50, they are on the top of redundancy lists. These results are part of the study published in the brochure “Position of the employed women in Macedonia by the authors Liljana Jankulovska and Iskra Kondarko – Lazarevska, which was promoted by the Women Section at the Trade Union Federation of Macedonia. The survey was done at 18 regional trade-union organizations and with representatives from 15 local trade unions.
According to the survey, 33.7& of the women questioned think that men do not have any advantage when looking for a job, whereas 44% said that the present laws protect the women and provide equality when it comes to employment. Only 11.3 % of the women are part of the decision-making bodies.
At the Trade Union, however, 11.8% of the women form part of the higher bodies. The opinion of 63% of the women who think they possess enough qualifications to become part of the decision-making structures can be added to this discrimination.
This publication is the first work of the Women Section at the Trade Union Federation of Macedonia, whose goal is to accomplish its programme goals for strengthening and improving the women’s position in the general socio-economic and political relations, especially in the tradeunion organizing.
