Millenium development goals

All together for a sustainable human development

In this issue we dedicate the forum to the Millenium development goals – a process that has been going on for five years at global level and in which our country is included. In the forum you can also participate on the address www.graganskisvet.org.mk  or www.civicworld.org.mk. We ask you to apply with your full name and surname and to state the name of the association, if you are a member of one.

The Millenium development goals were defined and accepted in 2000, at the Millenium summit that initiated and conducted the United Nation Organization. They are accepted as a frame for monitoring the progress of the humanity towards the sustainable human development. To the Millenium declaration of the UN Organization, that was signed by many countries from the world, joined Macedonia as well. The programme for development of the UN Organization – UNDP coordinates this wide and important global process. Target year of the Millenium development goals is 2015. Until then, the countries from the world obliged to achieve 8 goals:

1.      Decreasing by half the extreme poverty and hunger by 2015;
2.      Providing primary education for everyone;
3.      Promoting the sex equality and training the women;
4.      Decresing the mortality of children;
5.      Improving the health of the mothers;
6.      Fight against HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases;
7.      Providing sustainability of the environment;
8.      New global partnerships for development.

The process in Macedonia is implemented by the Government, through the Ministry of Finance which cooperates closely with the other governmental sectors. It includes the academic circles, institutions, the business-sector, but also the civil sector which is represented through the Civil platform of Macedonia. More precisely, the representatives from the Civil platform are included in every of the working groups that work on preparing the National report for the Millenium development goals of Macedonia. On 23rd December 2004, the Civil platform organized a presentation of the draft-version of the National report, which was attended by more citizen associations. The aim was to provide a forum discussion for this document and to provide wider participation of the civil sector. The discussion is opened for all civil associations from Macedonia, and more information for the process of the Millenium development goals and the National report can be obtained through the Civil platform of Macedonia (through the e-mail address: gpm@mcms.org.mk).
