A campaign for raising the public awareness on climate changes

“North south east west” – an exhibition in Gostivar

The civil society association “Front 21/42”, in cooperation with The British Embassy have opened the Caravan for raising the public awareness regarding the climate changes on 2 October this year, at the Cultural Centre “ASNOM” in Gostivar. The caravan is part of the global British Council campaign called “Zerocarbon City”. The United Kingdom Ambassador, Mr. Robert Chatterton Dickson and the Mayor of Gostivar, Mr. Nevzat Bejta spoke at the opening ceremony.

An exhibition of 23 poster-photographs taken well-known world photographers called “North south east west” was opened as part of the project. The photographs were taken at 12 locations throughout the world and they illustrate the ways in which the Earth and the people’s lives change under the influence of the climate changes. The steps and measures taken by the world countries for prevention against the catastrophic consequences threatening to us, have also been presented, as well as short documentaries from the same locations. An educational brochure was distributed focusing on the climate changes in Macedonia and the expected effects of them.

Several surveys are to be done in the month of November to find out what Gostivar citizens think and how well they are informed on the climate changes. A competition for an amateur photo is to be announced on “Climate changes in my town” for the high school students from Macedonia. The best photographs will be exhibited at the British Council premises after the caravan passes through several municipalities in the country.

More information on the “Zerocarbon City” campaign can be found on www.britishcouncil.org./zerocarboncity.
