Production of bio-diesel from the waste oil

The civil society organization of people with physical and mental disabilities “Zvezda” from Makedonska Kamenica and the Association of women farmers “Agro Vinka” from Vinica have initiated a project for producing bio-diesel from the waste oil. As part of the project, a factory opened Makedonska Kamenica in February this year. The project itself started last autumn, with financial support from the British Embassy in the Republic of Macedonia and the Global Environmental Fund in Macedonia. The project will last by 2008.

The British Ambassador, Robert Chatterton Dickson, who was present at the opening of the factory, emphasized the importance of its work, which will provide new employments in the town and protection of the environment. The general goal of the project is reduction of the glass gasses emission. It is to be realized by printing informative materials for raising the awareness of the restaurants’ owners not to use the same oil for frying several times, as well as for its harmful influence on the sewerage and the waters. The waste oil is brought to the factory from the restaurants (so far, Mc Donald’s and “Kaj Zlate” restaurants supported the project). The waste oil is then processed to get bio-diesel.

In the beginning, the production of bio-diesel is experimental; later on, it is planned to produce it from the rape that will be grown in the region of Vinica and Probistip. According to the estimations, the number of people who work in the factory will reach 30. The bio-diesel produced will be used by farming associations for planting the rape
