Centre for civic and human rights

Cross-border cooperation for the sexual minorities

In order to consistently implement its mission to improve the social position of the sexual minorities in Macedonia and provide legal protection of the civic and human rights of the Macedonian community of homosexuals, bisexuals, inter - sexuals and trans-generic people, the Centre for Civic and Human Rights has moved a step forward in its action and set a solid foundation for cross-border cooperation with the associations of sexual minorities from all former Yugoslav republics. We are referring to a one-year mutual project (September 2004 - September 2005) that includes organizations from Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro and Kosovo. The Centre for Civic and Human Rights from Macedonia will be the bearer of the project, in charge not only of the projects implementation on national level, but also of its regional implementation throughout former Yugoslavia.

The primary goal of the project named "A Guide for Lobbying, Advocacy and Public Opinion for the LGBTIQ Activists is to prepare a guide that will serve as a useful tool for the LGBTIQ associations throughout the Balkans in their fight for the rights of the sexual minorities and for improving their social position. Some of the activists will have to do a training course in the field of lobbying, advocacy and other areas related to the human rights fight. Thus, the LGBTIQ associations will be provided with the necessary skills for doing professional monitoring of the process of implementation of the national laws that protect the sexual minorities' rights, as well as react appropriately to their violations.
