The news with the best audience figures in Macedonia
 

“Programme needs of the audience in the Republic of Macedonia” was the title of the survey on the audience figures/the number of listeners of certain programme units of the electronic media in Macedonia, implemented by the Media Development Center. The survey, which took place between 17 and 24 December 2005 and was done according to the “door-to-door” model, covered 1,700 people aged 18-65, the representativeness criteria being the sex, nationality, age and place of living. The questions were divided into two basic segments – television and radio. Answers had to be provided on the number of viewers/listeners of the electronic media, the time of highest number of viewers/listeners, the type of programme units (film, sports, music, entertainment, reality show).

The results of the survey show that the highest percentage of the questioned (27%) watch TV between 6 and 10 p.m., most of which (35%) watch TV 3 to 5 hours a day. As far as the division national-local TV cannels is concerned, 47% of the questioned watch equally both the national and the local TV channels. The programme with the highest audience figures is the news (22%), while the most popular film genres are the action films (25%). The most popular series are the comedies (24%). When it comes to sports, football leads with 36%, then the handball (10%) and the basketball (6%). Most of the questioned are pleased with the programme offered (32%), but they would like to have a specialized programme (film-24%). 32% are indifferent to whether they will watch a reality show or not. However, 54% would like to watch a different programme at the weekend from the one they watch on weekdays.

Most of the questioned (23%) listen to the radio between 10 a.m. and 1 pm; 26% listen equally to both the local and the national radio stations. When it comes to genres, the survey showed that the music programmes have the highest number of listeners (43%), while 10% fall on the entertaining programme. Only 7% of the questioned listened to the news on the radio.
