SOLIDARITY ACTION

Aid for the victims of the earthquake in India

- Skopje is a symbol of the international solidarity, received after the earthquake in 1963. Because of that, and because of the fact that it is Mother Theresa’s native city – the woman that established the unbreakable connection between Skopje and Calcutta and between Macedonia and India – we started a solidarity action for helping the victims of the catastrophic earthquake in India.

The action will last until the end of March. There is a great response by the citizens after we published the appeal in the daily media – says Mr. Stojan Trencevski, Chairman of the Association Mother Theresa, Citizen of Skopje. The action is carried out in cooperation with the authorized Indian Embassy for our country, with the main office in Sofia, and the coillected aid will be distributed to the Aid Centre for the victims of the earthquake, with the main office in London. According to Mr. Trencevski, most needed are medicines, medical and hygienic materials, as well as financial means. The civic association Mother Theresa, Citizen of Skopje, continuing the merciful activity of the great citizen of Skopje carries out several activities for helping the sick, the old and the poor people. One of the activities is taking care of the old people. Currently the members of this association take care of 26 old people from Skopje, through regular visits, provision of food and medicines, taking for walks, to the doctor etc. They also often feed and dress the children on the streets, take them to their homes and talk with their parents, show them educative films. Mr. Trencevski’s opinion is that, by doing that, the Association cherish the memory of Mother Theresa’s work.
