International days for fighting the violence against women

“Don’t hide it, report it!

The Union of Macedonian Women Organizations organized the International days for fighting the violence against women. As a result of the mutual determination of the relevant governmental and civil society organizations in the field of fighting the violence against women, a campaign called Inter-institutional cooperation for dealing with the family violence in Macedonia” was carried out under the motto “Don’t hide it, report it! Its bearers were “Akcija zdruzenska”, the National SOS-line at the Skopje Women Organization, The Crisis Centre  - “Nadez”, The Shelter-Centre, ESE, The Ministry of Interior and The Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, who realized a number of activities for raising the public awareness, especially of the victims of family violence. A number of current situations related to the problem which is still a reality in our environment were pointed out at the tribune called “The life of the young people without violence”. The present spoke of the need to meet the victims and to encourage them to use all the available systems of protection, which include: reporting the violent act, getting expert help and sheltering the victims. The presented facts show that in the first six months of this year, the number of juveniles reported for violence and vandalism is twice bigger than the total number of cases recorder last year.

Snezana Ilievska from the Department for Children and Young People at the centre for Social Work in Skopje said that some of the most common causes for delinquency are the marital misunderstandings, which later grow into misunderstandings between the parents and the children. “The young people are usually witnesses, they can not demonstrate aggression at home, so they do it outside against those they consider to be equal or weaker then they are. Lately, there are cases when the young people demonstrate their deeply suppressed aggression against their parents, brothers or sisters” – said Ilievska.
