All our Distorted Mirrors
For quite some time, probably since the first military conflicts (that is, those that the began to be followed through the media), someone said that in every war, the first to die is the truth. Lots of different or distorted truths, lots of manipulations, too much adding fuel to the flame, drawing waters to ones own will…all these things have happened in our war. Creating truths, creating lies, creating opinions…The civic sector has not been left out of that crowd. The NGOs involved in the activities about the military events, trying to be break the darkness with a small ray of hope, that is distributing humanitarian help, acting calmly, improving the inter-ethnic relations, reducing the conflict. So, they immediately found themselves in the film where the truth is distorted, like a reflection in a bad mirror.
Certainly, there have always been and there will be attempts to use the NGOs for someone’s purposes. However, no one can beat the fact that both, the national and the international NGOs have done a lot from what the state would have to do – in terms of distributing food, repairing the houses, schools and hospitals. Wanting to reply to the distorted truths related to the NGOs and their role in the crisis in Macedonia, in this edition, as well as in the following, the “Civic World”, in its column “Story of the month”, presents Mr. Saso Klekovski’s text, which offers information and facts, most of them unknown to the broader public.
However, in this “Civic World” we offer information not directly related to the crisis – for example, information about the Ministry of Finance interesting projects (a forum where all citizens are invited to participate), USAID projects (centers for citizens information), Milieukontakt Oost – Europa prejects (effective campaign training), “Proaktiva” projects (for international financial institutions monitoring). We also present part of the rich NGO publishing activity, and in our newly established column “Concepts” we offer you some additional education and improve your understanding of the civic society. In this column we start with the two sub-columns “Q & A” (questions and answers) and “Concept page”, the aim of which is to give a theoretical explanation of certain questions related to the civic sector and illustrated by practical explanations, too.
This time, in the column “Interview”, Dr. Vesna Veljic Stefanovska, member of the MIA – Macedonian Interethnic Association’s managing board, responds to our questions. In the column “Views” you can read about an original approach to one interesting subject by Mrs. Zaneta Trajkovska from the Macedonian Institute for Media.
In this edition we publish advertisements for the traditional MCIC awards – the Award for sustainable development “Hert Ian van Apeldorn” and the Award for civic society and democracy, which the MCIC established last year.
In the Forum we ask you: “Do implement innovations in the methods of work?”. We invite you to express your opinion on this subject on the web-sites www.graganskisvet.org.mk and www.civicworld.org.mk.
Evergreen thoughts and jokes of the ever-popular Dusan Radovic, which we present in this number, will remind you of some small-big things, which make love beautiful and noble.
We remind you that you can advertise in the “Civic World”!
