Macedonian Association for Political Promotion
School for politics at the University of Democracy
From 2nd to 6th July this year in Strasbourg, the second Summer University of Democracy took place. It gathered about 600 representatives from the schools of politics that are organized in 12 countries on the Balkans and wider. The Summer University is an initiative of the Council of Europe and it is a joint final session of the existing schools of politics, where the participants receive their certificates.
The School of Politics in the Republic of Macedonia started working in 2003 and was organized by the Macedonian Association for Political Promotion – MAPA. Its activities are primarily focused on meeting the need for a new type of political culture and modern European leadership in the country, which means tolerant, civil-oriented and well-informed leadership that will be updated on the latest political trends and will ease up the development and the EU and NATO integration processes. The school of Politics is organized in four sessions, three of which take place in Macedonia and the final one in Strasbourg.
The general subject at this year’s Summer University of Democracy was “Projects on Europe”. The participants were given the opportunity to meet respectable guests – orators from the European institutions, civil sector representatives, high state representatives, etc. During the stay, they made contacts with some of the most important European institutions, such as the European Human Rights Court. The Summer University in Strasbourg is a rare opportunity to meet many different people from many different countries in one place, people with different background. Therefore, it earned the reputation of a serious European network of diversities.
