Successful educational project of "Cerenja" from Stip
Diplomas for Roma women
The Roma association "Cerenja" from Stip organized a celebration in the town where it awarded diplomas to 35 Roma women for completed primary education, as part of the activities of the project "Women, education and human rights" that "Cerenja" implemented in the period between June 2003 and May 2004. The project is financed by USAID through the Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) and was implemented as a nine-month course for making the Roma women literate through workshops on subjects like: "Human rights and the gender balance" and "Women human rights".
"We started with 60 Roma women from the Roma community in Stip aged 14-36, we divided them into three equal groups and provided classes two times a week in our offices. The result were the diplomas for completed primary education for 35 women. However, we will not stop here. We have already established and we are looking for new contacts with organizations that would financially support the continuation of the project", said Enise Demirova, president of "Cerenja".
