Three years’ work of the SOS – line for drugs

Over 30 trained volunteers answered the calls

Over 1 800 calls have been recorded since the opening of the SOS – line for drugs. The primary goal of this organization is to promote the drug and the HIV/AIDS prevention, as well as the prevention of other sexually transmitted diseases.

Through a free phone line, the SOS – line offers the Macedonian citizens information on the kinds of drugs, their effects, the health, social, psychological, family, school and other consequences that result from the use of drugs. The volunteers working on the line include unemployed social workers and students from the Social Works Institute. During the three-year operation of the line, there have been over 30 educated and trained volunteers for work on the SOS – line. People who have used the lone, showed most interest in the institutions for treating drug abusers, the kinds of drugs used, as well as the HIV/AIDS and the sexually transmitted infections. So far, the line has been supported by the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, The Macedonian Center for International Cooperation, The Macedonian Telecommunications, The Agency for Young and Sports, UNICEF, Alkaloid, AMVON-Communications, as well as some electronic and printed media.
