What will FIOOM do in 2005?
On 22 February, the Foundation Open Society Institute – Macedonia held a press conference on which they presented its agenda and the budget for 2005. In front of the journalists they spoke about the Foundations’ priorities: support to the reforms and the public participation in creating the policies, promotion of the civil society, decentralization, EU integration and the Roma integration.
FIOOM is implementing 13 programmes and provides grants, information, contacts and training courses, but they also employ their own experience and expertise. FIOOM particularly strives for building partnerships and cooperation on different levels.
In 2005, the Foundation has a budget of 7.614.373 American dollars on their disposal, of which 3.413.115 dollars come from George Soros’ funds and the rest of the money come from other donors and partners.
The foundation’s executive director, Mr. Milcin emphasized that in the next couple of years, the foreign donor help for the civil society organizations from Macedonia will not decrease. The donors’ community is aware that the civic sector needs a period to restructure itself in order to be able to function in a self-sustainable manner. Therefore, the foreign donors will support the civil society organizations for at least another seven years.
