Medjashi got involved in the world campaign for returning the children to school
Every child has a right of education
“Children are our pride, our present and future. They deserve our total attention, patience and devotion so that we can bring up healthy citizens of our society. It takes a lot of attention and education”, wrote the Mayor, Trifun Kostovski, in the book of messages of the project of the First Children Embassy in the World – Medjashi, “Let us return the children to school”, which took place on 24 April in Skopje. Their messages in the book wrote our stars Kaliopi, Vlatko Stefanovski, the MP Karolina Ristova – Asterud, the little Stefan Pleskonjik and others. They all gave their ethic vows to help at least one child get the obligatory education it is entitled to. The children and the adults prepared transparents with the messages “Education is power”, “More than 15,000 children are out of schools”, “I have a right of my personal opinion”, “One child more at schools – one child less on the street”, etc. A one-hour march was organized through the streets of Skopje, starting at 5 minutes to twelve on the square “Macedonia”. Hundredrs of citizens, parents, representatives from primary schools, public enterprises, civil society organizations, mayors and children gathered to share their wishes for normal life of all children.
The project of “Medjashi”, which is part of the global mission for returning the children to schools, lasted for seven days in our country. The primary school children made paper “friends”, friends from clay, old clothes and other materials which symbolize the children who do not come to school, but live their lives on the street. An exhibition of children creations was also organized at the square “Macedonia” on which the children displayed their “friends”. The children from Medjashi met the President Branko Crvenkovski, who signed a guarantee which obliges him to strive for including all children in the educational system, regardless of the reasons why they are not part of the educational process. “This is a world campaign that we are becoming par of since in our country there are more than 15,000 children aged 1-18 who are not part of the educational process. So far, we have been supported by a number of mayors, well-known people, and we are hoping that after the action has ended, the public awareness on the existence of this problem will increase. With the start of the new school year in autumn, we are expecting the first results. We will be pleased if this number halves, at least for those children who need elementary education”, said Dragi Zmijanac, executive director of Medjashi.
