Fourth World Social Forum

Dialogue for formulation of a different world

The World Social Forum 2004 that took place for the fourth time in (Mumbai)Bombay, India, gathered a number of civil society organizations and movements. The three previous forums took place at Porto Allegre, Brazil. This year, the Forum took place from 16 to 21 January.

The World Social Forum is a dialogue for formulation of a different world - plural, just, responsible and shared, with equal dignity and rights for all people. As such, it is an opposition to the neo-liberal economic policies. The World Social Forum declares the conviction that a "different world is possible". It focuses mainly to the negative influence of the neo-liberal globalisation that creates a small ruling class and a big class of vulnerable and poor in every country. Some of the mega-issues at the Forum were: "Globalisation, global governing and national states", "Media, culture and knowledge", "Political parties and social movements", etc. Several activities took place every day, one big, public event, 12 conferences and panels and 300 workshops. According to the estimations, the number of participants at the Forum was more than 75 000 people. Macedonian was represented by four participants: Jasmina Frinsic from ESE, Skopje, Albert Musliu from ADI, Gostivar and Saso Klekovski and Aleksandar Stamboliev from MCIC, Skopje.
