UMWO have marked the International Tolerance Day

It feels much more secure and warmer under one cover

The International Tolerance Day – 16 November, was marked by the Union of Macedonian Women Organizations at the City Square in Skopje with the performance called “It feels much more secure and warmer under one cover”.

Participants at the celebrations were the children from the orphanage “11 October”, the pioneer house “Karpos”, pupils from the primary school “Dame Gruev”, students from the youth center “Open Space”. The book called “Ervehina” (a book which tells the story of one mother) by Luan Starova was also promoted at the event. The book was presented by the poetess Svetlana Hristova, who spoke about it in the spirit of tolerance. “The tolerance is an inevitable part of respecting human rights and accomplishing peace. It simply means respecting the individual’s personality and identity. The tolerance is an opportunity to accept opinions and ideas different than your own, as well as the ability to show understanding and patience, they say at UMWO. The tolerance can be noticed in the equal approach to social benefits, educational and economic opportunities for all gender, racial, ethnic, religious, age and social groups. “The basic goal of the education on tolerance is to recognize and respect the dignity and integrity of all human beings; to respect the diversity, the ability to recognize injustice, the ability to take steps for overcoming it and the ability to resolve conflicts in a constructive manner. The family has the main role in the education on tolerance since it is the mediator relating its members with the social environment, and creates socially accepted forms of behavior. Every parent must educate its child in the spirit of tolerance, understanding and patience. Children must be taught to apologize, forgive and accept others regardless of their ethnic origin, religion, gender or race. Schools must become forums for creating communities and education on tolerance. Religious organizations can organize programmes for religious tolerance, enter an inter- religious dialogue and develop directions for education and inter-religious respect” – UMWO members emphasize.
