World associations of newspapers and editors
More press-freedom on the Internet
In the preparation of the World Summit on Informative Society, the boards of the World Newspapers Association and the World Forum of Editors asked to be provided conditions for bigger press-freedom on the Internet in all parts of the world.
These two associations think that in many countries there is not enough free flow of information through the Internet.
At the recently held World Newspaper Congress in Dublin, Ireland, the editors and publishers passed a resolution that will be sent to the World Summit on Informative Society, which asks from it to fight the repressive measures that some countries in the world use against spreading the information through the electronic medium.
The World Summit in Informative Society is organized by the UN. It will take place in December this year in Geneva, Switzerland and its goal is to make policy for spreading the information technologies and bridge the differences that exist in this field among the rich and the poor countries.
