Macedonian citizens, too, can be optimists
After a long time, Macedonian citizens are slowly beginning to turn to optimists.
This is demonstrated by the latest UNDP report on on-time warning, which was followed by a great media attention in the country ate the end of June. The research was carried our by “Brima Gallop” in the period between 30 March and 4 April this year by means of questioning with a representative sample for 1 057 people (821 Macedonians and representatives of other nationalities and 236 Albanians), of which 45.3 % were optimists regarding the direction in which our country is moving. The results have also shown that the citizens’ trust in the safety institutions in the country has grown, too.
However, besides the optimism displayed, some of the most evident problems remain to be the poverty, the unemployment and the corruption, which are the areas citizens expect the Government to address in the future period.
The optimism is always necessary in Macedonia, especially now that the internal political situation between the ruling political parties can raise doubts on the citizens whether this country is rally moving in the right direction, that is, what direction we are being headed for by our political leaders.
As for the civil sector, information appeared in the month of June that brought a ray of optimism, which was that by September, the City of Skopje should get the first strategy for cooperation with the civil sector. It is also projected that a forum of NGOs is established as a consultative body of the city authorities.
Building strategies in all spheres of our social development appeared to be a necessary and inevitable process, especially after the Macedonia gained its independence. The experience from the cooperation between the civil society organizations and the local authorities can serve as a positive example for other towns to build mutual strategies with the domestic civil society organizations.
The source of our optimism lies in the joint results that were displayed, and the strategies, which more than merely documents written on a piece of paper, will show in the future whether their makers are choosing the right direction or not.
