Handbooks on global ecological problems

For three years in our country and two in Kosovo, the Institution for Promotion of the Culture OHO implements the project entitled: "Education of Teachers and Professionals that Work with Children, Improvement of the Tutorial Process in the Primary Schools and the Kindergartens and a Campaign for Raising the Public Awareness on the Human Environment".

One of this project’s components is the publishing of handbooks, picture books, drawing books, calendars, and preparations of TV video clips are in process. As the Director of OHO Pece Talevski told us, this project and the publications published within it offered a new media for promoting the awareness of the human environment.
- Our goal was to attract the children with things closest to them, as the pictures, and to achieve a level of identification with the comics’ characters, which were very well accepted by them. We work on this project in cooperation with the Pedagogue Department of Republic of Macedonia, UNICEF, UNMIK in Kosovo, and OKSFAM in Serbia. At the moment this is still a Macedonian-Yugoslav project, but we have ambitions to make it a Balkan one, by including more countries. In cooperation with Danish Outdoors Council we negotiate the inclusion of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Monte Negro in this project.
The drawings and the texts – likeable and adequate to the children age – became so popular with the children that the Pedagogue Department asked OHO to use the same characters for the illustration of the schoolbook on Civic Education for the primary schools.
